Impact

As a deep tech investment pioneer,
KII is fully committed to continued impact investing
with the aim of accomplishing its mission.

With a mission we express as “Let us help your research, your invention, your innovation change the world, ” KII has invested in and provided support for academia-originated deep tech that works to use digital technology to advance society and provide solutions in fields such as medical healthcare.KII has always been at the forefront when it comes to impact-oriented investment activities.

In order to further accelerate our impact-oriented activities going forward, we will comply with global standards and take a sincere and honest approach to impact measurement and management (IMM).In specific terms, this means that in all stages from due diligence up to actual investment, we will work together with startup investees to define a Theory of Change (ToC), a logic model, the five dimensions of impact, and impact KPIs.

We shall continue to drive forward the incorporation into society of the excellent results achieved by the universities and other such research institutions that Japan boasts. And at the same time as contributing to society, we shall ensure a high level of profitability as a venture capital fund, and work to build a sustainable innovation ecosystem.

    (Impact Measurement & Management)

For our impact measurement and management, we follow the Operating Principles for Impact Management advocated by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and refer in our design and management work to the Guidebook for Impact Measurement and Management created by the GSG Japan National Advisory Board Working Group on Impact Measurement and Management.

  • The impact of investments is measured with the “five dimensions of impact”

When determining the validity of an investment and during monitoring, we employ the five dimensions of impact (what, who, how much, contribution, and risk) used by impact investors around the world to perform a multifaceted impact evaluation.

  • “Logic model” designed for each and every investee

We create a logic model through discussions with our investees.Through this process, we verbalize the ultimate goal of the impacts envisioned by the investee, and the path to be taken toward this.
